On Friday, November 7, 2008, the Marcus Foster Education Fund, the first local education fund in the United States, marked a milestone. We celebrated 35 years of service to Oakland public school students, parents, and teachers. On that wonderful evening, among hundreds of our closest friends and long-time supporters, our new name was unveiled. Formerly known as the Marcus A. Foster Education Institute, we are now the Marcus Foster Education Fund (MFEF).
The Board and staff of the Marcus Foster Education Fund would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made the 35th Anniversary Kick-off Celebration a great success. Additionally, at a time when economic uncertainty appears to be ubiquitous, it was particularly noteworthy to witness the Oakland community coming together to support Oakland’s local education fund. A special thank you to our fiscally sponsored projects, Prescott Circus Theater and Oakland Technology Exchange-West (OTX-West) for joining us at the 35th Anniversary celebration.
