85% Financial Aid Application Rate in OUSD Ranks Among Highest Nationally

HRP_1260.jpeg

The Marcus Foster Education Institute and the East Bay College Access Network began working with the Oakland Unified School District in 2011 to raise public financial aid application completion rates when just 40% of seniors were completing federal or state financial aid applications. By 2014, we saw OUSD raise those rates to 70%. The district's implementation of sound system-wide and school-based practices led to their unprecedented achievement of 85% - one of the highest rates in the country! To learn more about how OUSD did nationally in 2017, see the results in the linked national report.

To celebrate these accomplishments as well as the individual schools that made the greatest strides in achieving the highest rate of completion and greatest increases, MFEI, hosted a breakfast at Castlemont high school. We would like to send our gratitude to the educators, college access providers and district staff who made the success at the following champion schools and across the district possible:

LIFE Academy High School, 100% Completion Rate
Rudsdale Continuation School, 31% Increase from 2016 to 2017
Castlemont High School, 24% Increase from 2016 to 2017

When we focus on systems change and ensuring all students have access to opportunities - the sky's the limit!
